In 2020, All The Minions Went, “Aaaaaah!” But How About 2021?
Like the minions going “Aaaaaaaah!” as they run every which way, 2020 was the year that even Gru would like to forget. But as we look back at 2020, we can all say, “We survived!” And for many of us, we didn’t just survive, we took the bull by the horns and we made 2020 the year where we pushed ourselves more than ever.
It was supremely difficult to start Smolpotato. Primarily because we had no idea what we were doing. Put a monkey in our seat and the monkey might end up doing a better job. But we felt really strongly about what we were trying to do and we persevered. Tasha had to master WordPress and she spent more than a month researching, learning, trying, and tearing her hair out as the site didn’t work as intended.
I had to discover my potato voice, to learn to write in a way that captivates and entertains, and to show how yummy, scrumptious and scandalously tempting our seller’s goodies are. I’m usually not a potato, so it was difficult early on.
And we had to do all this while trying to survive in a pandemic stricken world. With multiple contracts cancelled at the beginning of the year, like many others we wondered how we were going to survive the rest of 2020. But survive we did, and we channeled much of our resources to help other small businesses do the same. And that gave us real joy – a joy that’s meaningful and has kept us going through difficult times.
It also wasn’t easy doing this as a married couple. Though we’ve worked together on multiple projects before under our other startup pewpew.agency, we’ve never had to work together this closely before. We had incidences that pushed us away from each other, but thankfully we ended up closer than ever. By wading through difficult waters together, Tasha and I became true partners in crime.
And so as the year ends. Tasha and I would like to say thank you. Thank you for being the early birds, the pioneers of the neighbour-help-neighbour movement. Thank you for supporting one another and thank you for being the crazies that joined Smolpotato even though there were so few sellers and buyers at the beginning of our journey. Thank you for doing what you love, and making the world that much more joyful.
2021 holds so much potential. To better serve you, our sellers, we’ll be further improving our site and we’ll be making the buying/selling process a simple one-click process. And that includes payment, delivery, and more. So that you, as a seller, can focus your time on what you truly enjoy – creating. To bring our vision to life, we’re exploring partnerships with platform developers, and we think we’ve found the best people to do that with. People who care about you, the smol potatoes as much as we do.
So here’s to a fabulous 2021 overflowing with possibilities. Happy New Year everyone.
